Rabbits are the third most common household pet... yet they're also among the most commonly abandoned pets.

One thing I don't think gets talked about enough is how few household products are actually designed with rabbit owners in mind.

Dog owners have products for fur. Cat owners have products for litter. But rabbit owners? We spend our days battling hay, stray poops, litter, urine stains, shredded cardboard, and fur—usually with products that weren't designed for any of it.

Hay is probably the biggest challenge. It ends up everywhere, and can be difficult to remove from carpet, rugs, washing machines, cars and p*e pads. Most vacuums eventually clog with it. There really isn't a "perfect" vacuum for rabbit owners.

I've always trusted Shark vacuums, because they were affordable and easy to tackle clogs but after purchasing one of the newer models for pets, I've found it's actually become harder to clear hay from the roller because it can no longer be removed. I also love the Bissell floor sweeper but hay bits are hard to remove from the collection bin!

It made me realize just how much we're adapting everyday household products to meet rabbit care needs instead of having products designed for us.

Keeping rabbits is incredibly rewarding, but it's also a lot of work. When cleaning becomes a constant battle, it's easy to see how some people become overwhelmed and want to give up on rabbits or house them unsafely outdoors. As a community, we need better products—and until that happens, we need to help each other.
