I heard the music before I saw her.

She was playing piano and singing at a city event, and after her set we stepped aside for a few quick portraits in the shade.

One of the things I love most about carrying a camera is that it gives me permission to meet people I otherwise would have walked right past.

A few minutes. A conversation. A handful of photographs.

That's usually all it takes.
