The Kept Rat Rattery
06/11/2026
Waitlist has been contacted and all other rats from two dwarf litters have been claimed until further notice. I do have these two boys available, however. One Tonkinese boy (he will develop a pointe on his nose as he grows) and this dark mink boy. These pics are older and I will get new ones in a few days. :)
I have never had this in the hundreds of rats I’ve produced .. and in the dozens of rats produced by either parent. Thus we have - spontaneous small eye. It’s a genetic mutation and in this case, likely de novo.
Luckily this is purely aesthetic and he will live a relatively normal life (although may have restricted sight in that eye, meaning care should be brought to his living space). If he has a tall cage, he will need many things to break falls like baskets and ropes and all sorts of things so he never falls too far, as he might have a slightly worse depth perception than other rats (and already rats don’t have the best eyesight as it is!)
Although I do work with other breeders and he is the cutest little tonk boy, he is pet only due to this mutation. Although benign in nature, it’s not anything you ever want to breed for (despite how cute he really is!)
He will be available for adoption at a slightly discounted rate soon, to someone willing to provide some more care to his personal safety needs due to restricted sight in his one eye.

The other adorable litter! Looks like black, agouti, and likely cinnamon or Havana.
