Corticosteroid injection or dry needling for musculoskeletal pain and disability? A systematic review and GRADE evidence synthesis
Conclusions: There are no differences between dry needling and corticosteroid injection in pain or disability for myofascial pain and greater trochanteric pain syndrome. Very-low certainty evidence suggests that corticosteroid injection is superior to dry needling at shorter follow-up periods, whereas dry needling seems to be more effective than corticosteroid injection at longer follow-up durations for improving pain in plantar fasciitis and lateral epicondylitis. Large RCTs with higher methodological quality are needed in order to draw more incisive conclusions.

Is Dry Needling Applied by Physical Therapists Effective for Pain in Musculoskeletal Conditions? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: Low-quality evidence that the immediate to 72-hour (large) effect, 4- to 12-week (large) effect, 13- to 24-week (large) effect, and moderate-quality 1- to 3-week (moderate) effect suggested that DN performed by physical therapists was more effective than no treatment, sham DN, and other therapies for reducing pain.
