One of my favorite gags in the show are the once’s that were birthed out of necessity. A great example of this is when I spend a long amount of time and energy releasing some air from the balloon for balloon swallow until I get the pressure just right. This isn’t me acting. I found that if you don’t get the pressure just right then that trick is significantly harder to pull off. Too much air and it goes down waaaaaay too slow. Not enough air and the balloon might just fall apart. There is a very thin margin where if I get the pressure just right then the trick goes perfect. So I purposefully take a moment out of the show to lock in and try to get it just right.

The other example is a moment before the Head Twister. In order for my head to (just barely) fit inside the box I must remove my hat. This is the only time in the show where I am without my hat for an extended period of time and even worse it’s towards the end of the show. Which means I have an excessive amount of hat hair going on. My hair, at best, is presentable and that’s with a lot of product and NO HAT. Within five minutes of a show it’s just a ln unredeemable mess. So since we knew I would be removing my hat at a point in the show I started carrying a pocket comb to give my hair a quick once over. Again, this is played for laughs but I am not acting. I really am trying to fix my hair in the moments before the trick. Bonus I have now taken to adding extra gags like combing my eyebrows too or running my thumb along the comb to make a cool noise just to throw Mildly Magic April off and make her laugh.
