Spotted in Little Tokyo, LA. A community showing up for the hunger strikers at Adelanto and Delaney Hall, and reminding us that words matter.

On May 19, people detained at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center launched a hunger strike over inhumane conditions. Their demands are basic: clean drinking water, adequate food, mold remediation, real medical care.

This isn’t far from home. Kern County has its own for-profit detention facilities in McFarland and California City. The same system, the same conditions, the same silence.

The second slide breaks down the language. “Detention center” sounds neutral. “Facility” sounds harmless. But when people are confined without hearings, in harsh conditions, because of who they are? The dictionary has a word for that too.

We stand with the hunger strikers. We stand with detained community members here in Kern County. And we refuse to soften the language.

Solidarity from the Central Valley to Little Tokyo to Newark. 💛

This is our official statement re: CCHS name change. If you would like to join us at tomorrow’s Board Meeting, DM us.

We thank the students who led this effort with courage, and the families and community members who stood beside them.

LOUD For Tomorrow is not finished.
