Tip #3
Model correct speech
For our children with articulation deficits, it is important for us to model correct speech. This helps build the childās awareness, so they can self-monitor and correct. When modeling correct speech, emphasis the misarticulated word/sound.
This may look like:
Child- dut!
Adult- You see the duCK? I see the duCK too!
-or-
Child- I want nana.
Adult- Sure, I can give you a BAnana.
ā do not make fun of child for their misarticulations
ādo not imitate incorrect speech

Tip #2:
Play!
Children learn through play. They develop so many skills by connecting and engaging with others in play-based activities.
I know itās hard to take some time to just play with our kids. Iām guilty of turning on the TV for the kids after a long day of work, so I can get things done at home. More often than not, I find myself saying āgive me a secondā when theyāre seeking my attention for playing purposes.
Whether your child invites you to play with them or they appear uninterested in playing with others, itās important to know that all children want and need connection. Join your child in whatever interests them.
This can look like:
-playing doctor
-having a tea party
-playing board games
But, it can also look like:
-lining up cars
-watching pebbles fall
-spinning in place
Join your children in play as much as possible!

We are excited to start accepting patients this summer! We are working hard to have all things in order. More details will come soon. In the meantime, engage with us on social media.
Did you know National Speech-Language-Hearing Month starts tomorrow? During the month of May, we will be sharing tips to help you facilitate your loved oneās communication skills.
Tip #1: Talk to your children all day! Whether your babies are still in momās belly, infants, toddlers or school-aged kids, talk to them about everything. Even if your children donāt respond or appear to not be paying attention, they are listening.
Breakfast time may look like this: āMommy is cooking breakfast. Weāre eating bacon and eggs today. Mommy is cracking the eggs. Mommy is cutting the bacon. Mommy is turning on the stove. Mmm, do you smell the bacon? Yummmy! Oh, the food is hot! Letās blow on it to cool it down.ā Etc. No matter what youāre doing, there is always something to talk about.
