Here are my top 4 reasons for making a shift away from style centered clients:

1. Styles don’t fix the foundation. Style-centered clients are focused on the end look, not the condition of their hair. But without addressing hydration, elasticity, and scalp health, the results are temporary—and often lead to ongoing damage.

2. It creates a cycle of dependency. When the priority is always the next style, clients rely on you to “cover up” issues instead of learning how to care for their hair. As a healthy hair professional, my goal is empowerment—not dependency. I’m naturally a disruptor. So I’ll challenge those habits especially if they’re causing harm.

3. Chronic, high-risk, High-tension styling often conflicts with hair goals. Many popular styles involve tension, heat, or manipulation that can directly oppose length retention, moisture balance, and overall hair integrity—especially for tight to tightest curls.

4. Long-term transformation requires consistency, not quick results.Healthy hair is built through routine, education, and intentional care. Style-focused clients often want instant results, while I specialize in sustainable progress over time.

The work I do is long, un-sexy and can become boring but true hair transformation is really like any huge life transformation !

It requires the same measurable variables over a period of time. So if there’s no agreed upon system to measure … it’s random and results will be random with no clear path as to what we are looking at ; If there is no agreement on what the variable we are working on are , there is no order ( you may be worried about length and I’m trying to combat the dehydrated state of your hair , and if there’s no start to verify time line… motivation is challenged.

I was hooked on synthetic braids starting from middle school , high school , through college!
Started dabbling in wigs after … i was just shifting the root issue unknowingly !
Yes those styles are fun and cute but they also helped me get into black girl hair neglect culture!
Looking at them as tools and accessories has now allowed me to be with them sparingly and prioritize the very hair that grow from my insides!
I knew it was deep when so much fear and anxiety fueled me at the idea of going to certain places or leaving my home woth my own hair . Get curious about what’s coming up for you !
As most of yall know I’m not anti-any styles or pro only being natural. It’s your hair , your sense of expression but make sure it’s coming from a place of power, joy and art and not from a place of fear, less-than, and stories about our hair being difficult , or a lot.
Bring your power back to you … so what if you switch up and they’re confused … you should be living FOR YOU!
