Today the DeKalb Dems celebrated America’s birthday by marching in the Dunwoody 4th of July Parade!

Democracy is not a spectator sport, and DeKalb Dems showed up to prove it! 💙 So proud to march alongside friends and neighbors who believe in showing up, speaking out, and voting like it matters. Because it does.

Happy 4th! 🇺🇸

**When the Lights Stay On, But Families Fall Behind**

Across Georgia, families are doing everything right — working hard, budgeting carefully, cutting back where they can — and still falling behind because of **out-of-control utility bills.** Electricity prices have jumped **nearly 40% since 2021,** and for many households, that increase isn’t just a number. It’s the difference between paying for groceries or skipping meals. Between filling a prescription or letting it wait. Between stability and constant worry.

And they’re not alone. **80 million Americans** are struggling to keep up with their utility bills, often sacrificing food, healthcare, and education just to keep the lights on.

Georgia Power’s monopoly and lack of accountability have pushed families to the breaking point — and people are tired of feeling powerless.

**This Webinar conversation is for every family who has ever asked: “Why is my bill so high?”**

Join us for a heartfelt, community centered discussion about:
- Why bills keep rising even when families can’t afford more
- How monopoly power affects everyday people
- What we can do together to demand fairness, transparency, and accountability
- How policy decisions directly shape the cost of simply living

Featured Speaker: *Patty Durand*
Patty Durand is the founder of Georgians for Affordable Energy, a nonprofit focused on lower utility bills and reforming the state agency in charge of regulating Georgia Power, the Georgia Public Service Commission. She has more than a decade of experience in the energy sector, including 10 years as director of the Smart Energy Consumer Collaborative, a national nonprofit focused on grid modernization. Patty was a 2022 candidate for the Georgia Public Service Commission.

The DeKalb Dems had a fantastic time at the Toney Valley Block Party! It was great connecting with neighbors, building community, and sharing our vision for a stronger DeKalb County.

A special thank you to Barbara Mobley for spearheading this incredible event and bringing the community together. Your leadership and dedication made the day a tremendous success.

We also want to thank GA House District 90 Democratic Nominee Bentley Hudgins and DeKalb County Commission District 3 Democratic Nominee Keyanna Jones Moore for joining us and supporting the event. We look forward to supporting both of their campaigns as we work together to elect Democrats up and down the ballot this November.
