I wanted to post some new pieces I’ve had a chance to work on.

I’ll explain it as best I can but when my mother died, I was grief stricken. I had the task of going through her things through this thick haze and found myself most drawn to her letters, business things, notes to her mother, shopping lists, addresses books and so on.

Her loopy cursive..man, my mother had distinctive handwriting - it’s such a hugely personal thing to do. I found myself unable to toss a whole lot out, so I used it as a surface to paint on top of. It’s therapeutic for sure, and it’s pretty transparent to see that I’m trying to organize a little bit of grief and it’s journey.

You can see bits here and there of mom’s letters underneath these paintings, some of her stories, some of the things that she was going through but most importantly, just simply her style of handwriting. It just brings her right back to me every time I see something she wrote down.

I think she’d get a kick out of what I decided to do with her accounting ledgers!
