Catherine Marshall, born in 1914, was a prolific writer and member of the class of 1936. Shortly after graduating from Agnes Scott, she married Peter Marshall, a Presbyterian minister who later became Chaplain of the United States Senate.
When Peter died unexpectedly of a heart attack in 1949, Catherine Marshall wrote a book about his life entitled “A Man Called Peter” that was later made into a movie of the same name. The movie was partly filmed on the Agnes Scott campus.
The book was so popular that Marshall was encouraged to continue writing. She wrote several books, including “Christy,” based on her mother’s experiences as a young teacher in a mountain mission school. “Christy” was made into a TV series of the same name in 1994, as well as a trilogy of TV movies.
Marshall remarried in 1959 to Leonard LeSourd, editor of “Guideposts Magazine.”
She passed away in 1983. Agnes Scott has a collection of Marshall’s writings, including correspondence with fans and publishers, manuscripts and typescript drafts of her books, research notes and personal memorabilia.
Have you ever read any of Marshall’s books?

Clubs like the Tie Club make me wonder if 120 years from now, people will look back on our yearbooks and laugh at the names of our clubs!
You can find digital copies of past ASC yearbooks dating all the way back to 1902 at https://dspace.agnesscott.edu/.
