We've gotten really good at making sin sound small.

A rough patch. Something we're working on. Language that lets us skip past what sin actually is: a decision, made over and over, to trust our own judgment over God's. It's why the same wall keeps showing up in your closest relationships. Why the same regret circles back no matter how many times you promise it'll be different this time. Sin isn't a minor flaw to manage. It's a fracture that runs through everything it touches.

That's exactly why God didn't just decide to overlook it. Something had to die to deal with it, once, so it wouldn't have to keep happening. The cross wasn't a backup plan. It was always the only answer big enough for a problem this deep.

None of this is about piling on guilt. It's about understanding why freedom cost something, and why it's worth it.

Where do you feel the tension between wanting to be free and wanting to stay in control?

An embassy exists in foreign territory, but it operates under a different government. That's what the church is supposed to be. Not a country club for the already convinced, but a little outpost of the kingdom of God planted in the middle of the world. We live here, but we answer to a different king.

What does it look like for you to operate like a member of an embassy of the kingdom?
