Nihsen Family Farms
10/21/2025
An open letter to President Trump.
Dear President Trump,
My name is Andrea and I’m a 5th generation farmer and cattle producer from Minnesota. I’m proud to say we raise beef on our family farm all the way from birth to finished cattle leaving on a truck to become beef + byproducts. I am also an entrepreneur outside of agriculture and have a good grasp on economics, the beef market & running a business.
Your plan to “fix beef prices” is not and will never be the answer. I understand you’re a business man, but business looks quite different in beef production.
Bragging about how you plan to lower beef prices with what sounds like a trade deal with Argentina isn’t going to help consumers and the economy— it’s a direct hit on American farmers & ranchers who are already fighting to survive and honestly, one of the biggest disappointments.
American first, that’s the platform right? Doesn’t that mean you should put American farmers and ranchers first?
Here’s the actual truth to the numbers: the inflation-adjusted retail price of ground beef has been quite stable for decades. We are in a market right now that’s finally given ranchers a fair price after years of being underpaid AND is finally compensating for the high price of all inputs.
It’s finally FAIR -- for BOTH sides.
We’re producing the same high quality beef and even more — with even fewer cattle. When we talk about progress in sustainability and efficiency while still producing the same amount of the SAFEST & HIGHEST QUALITY beef — we’re doing that right here on U.S. soil.
We should be PROUD of that and embrace U.S. beef with labeling too, but that’s a battle for another day.
The market has finally reached a point where cattle producers can afford groceries and make payments without relying on off-farm income — which is HARD to balance in our livelihood.
Yet now you want to push prices down because of some pressure about the prices of it? How about we actually stand strong in our policies of AMERICA FIRST.
The nutritional value of beef makes it still an incredibly affordable food.
Beef is a complete protein.
Beef is rich in iron, zinc & B vitamins.
If you actually care about consumers, target the real problem: the big four meat packers. They control the market, prices, and pocket the high profits majority of the time. Your plan to lower beef prices won’t make beef cheaper in the grocery store — it’ll just increase the corporate profit and take away profit from family farmers & ranchers that actually deserve it for the hard work and time we put into raising beef.
Stand up for rural America.
Stop punishing the very people who feed this nation.
Put America first like you always talk about
Sincerely,
A disappointed and extremely frustrated cattle producer.
I’d love to have a discussion about this while producers are present. I have a lot of contacts in our industry from all areas and would love to make it happen.
