Scattered storms are possible from this morning into the afternoon mainly in North Texas, some of which may produce frequent lightning and strong downburst wind gusts. Areas unaffected by thunderstorms will have another hot and humid afternoon with heat index values up to 105. Following a hot and dry Saturday, higher rain chances will arrive with an unseasonably strong cold front on Sunday and Monday.

A weak front approaching from the north will bring scattered thunderstorms to portions of North Texas late tonight through Friday afternoon. The greatest storm coverage is expected generally north of I-20 from after midnight through midday Friday. While the overall severe weather threat remains low, a few storms may produce gusty winds and frequent lightning. Most locations south of I-20 are expected to remain dry and warm, with afternoon temperatures reaching the low to mid 90s.

Storm chances will be highest over the weekend as a slow moving upper disturbance spreads through the Southern Plains. The severe weather threat remains low, though stronger storms could produce gusty winds, frequent lightning, small hail, and heavy rain. The flooding threat will increase in areas that observe training storms.
