After a Cam, Converter and Header upgrade this Automatic C5 was in dire need of a real tune. Someone who shouldn't be trying to tune had made a mess of the calibration. The previous "tune" had the timing maxed out and was "dirt car lean" at 15:1 AFR and had the safety features disabled. This makes it hard for a safe tune to make power over the baseline dyno pull. Too much fuel in the low RPM range made this convertible no fun to cruise around because of all the exhaust fumes and excessive fuel consumption. After hours of true calibration all the Fuel, Air, and Spark tables were happy to produce Safe and Reliable power from this baby cammed, small tube header, stall converter equipped C5 Corvette. Far more power than the piston melting "max power toon" it had. Thanks to Lynn for trusting Speed Engineering to not only get it idling, driving, and shifting right but make the most power safely possible with this combo while making the cruising enjoyable.

BMW guy wanted a Real Wheel Horsepower baseline before adding boost

When a good customer wants you to improve the tune on an ole 3 valve Mustang... you just have to do the best you can. He just wanted the most power he could safely get with this combo on 93 octane only, a 2.6 Kenne Bell supercharger and 9:1 compression ratio. It was richer than Oprah and not happy on the mail order tune. I never imagined we would get into Coyote territory but it responded very well. We can safely say He is very happy with the results. Now it's time to upgrade some of the support systems and do some flex fuel tuning.

This stock c5 showed up with just a cold air intake installed wanting a true dyno tune. This is another good example of what type of power can be gained from just a true dyno tune on a car that already ran fine. Now it runs better, drives better, is more efficient, safe, more crisp, and has an extra 26 whp and 30 wtq. Now any future mods will just need a fine adjustment to the established tune.

Got this Clean Classic Chevelle with an LT1 swap all dialed in on the Dyno with a reprogram of the stock PCM.

Outstanding gains from a Complete Custom Dyno Tune!
In the previous post you saw where this combo Gained 59 whp at 6500 RPM with the supercharger kit and a good mail order tune making 356 whp. With plenty of time and effort we gained ANOTHER 61 whp at 6500 RPM with ONLY a Complete Custom Dyno Tune for a total peak of 410 whp and 410 wtq. More power from our custom dyno tune than from the supercharger install! In the mid range the tune gain was even more impressive. At 4900 RPM the gain from the supercharger was 31 whp and the custom dyno tune gain was 53 whp
While these tuning gains are incredible some things keeping all the whp numbers from being higher are a Heavy duty truck Tq converter with higher stall, Smog legal quiet exhaust, quiet stock air box, SAE correction factors, and did I mention the boost was only 5 psi? That's right, total boost before and after the tune was only 5 psi. All these pulls were done in 2nd gear due to the driveshaft rpm limit preventing full pulls in the 1:1 ratio 3rd gear. 3rd gear would show another ~20 whp and tq on these 410 whp pulls.
Some Street Drivability tuning also got rid of some annoying shift patterns and an intake whistle at Hwy cruise while allowing the fuel economy improvements to be dialed in.
Wayne wanted a truck that Chevy has been teasing Truck guys with for many years. Chevy never built the Regular Cab Short Bed SS truck that came with few options, the most powerful LS based truck engine, and an entry level price point. Instead they offered a high dollar AWD extended cab fully optioned SS truck that was heavy. Wayne's RCSB truck has the comforts of a Silverado and with the quiet and smog legal exhaust upgrades, tiny camshaft, and Magnusson Supercharger it has more power than GM would have ever offered in their bare bones SS concept.
Now Wayne has 550 Hp and 550 Tq at the crank with stock drivability and all the options he wants for much less money and better MPG than any new truck.
After driving this truck for a couple of weeks He called to give me a report. His only words were... "It's Perfect, I will be coming back for the next power increase in the Springtime "
On the next Visit we will pulley up some more boost with custom dyno tuning for another awesome Power gain while keeping all the quietness, stockness, drivability and MPG that Wayne calls Perfect.
