U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. highlighted faith-based organizations as a key part of the Trump administration’s addiction recovery strategy while announcing more than $700 million in new behavioral health funding.

Kennedy said one of the most significant features of the new STREETS recovery program is that it will once again allow faith-based organizations to receive federal funding, arguing that religious groups play a critical role in helping people overcome addiction.

He criticized the administration of Joe Biden for allegedly discouraging states from supporting faith-based recovery efforts.

“President Trump considers them critical,” Kennedy said, emphasizing that churches and religious ministries are essential partners in moving people from addiction and homelessness toward recovery.
