Cheers 🍻 to Dr. Stephen Barthold and Dr. Denise Imai!!! The book, Pathology of Laboratory Rodents and Rabbits, 5th Ed, is finally done. Labor of love, many colleagues and prior trainees have contributed new images and new content to this expanded edition. There’s a new chapter on Chinchillas and an additional section on humanized immunodeficient mice. All proceeds go to support students and residents at CPL so if you buy the book, know that you are supporting the next generation of veterinarians, pathologists and laboratory animal specialists. 🎉 🐭

At the annual meeting of the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities (ABRF), a key organization that promotes the advancement and dissemination of best practices for research and resource Core facilities. Members represent more than 400 laboratories and administrative offices in government, academia, research, industry and commercial settings. Now, more than ever, we need to understand how to support our research community, how to continue to promote scientific excellence, and how we, as a community, can elevate each other. Heading off to a discussion of which model works better and when, centralized or distributed administration. These topics may sound dry but they will shape the future of shared scientific resources.

Students Training in Advanced Research (STAR) is an intramurally and extramurally funded program supporting the development of veterinary scientists. We are proud to host Sonyia Williams, a second year veterinary medical student, this summer. She is studying the genetic and cutaneous microbiome conditions that influence atypical Corynebacterium bovis outbreaks in athymic n**e mice. Her conclusions will shape management decisions for sentinel programs and immunodeficient mice.
