I hear every single day, why are my insurance premiums going up so much. Well there are a myriad of reasons. It is hard to see a premium increase on your statement "when I have never had a claim." Unfortunately, these carriers are across the nation and are getting hit with storms and claims like they have never had before in a volume they have never had before. Here is one good example.

This is from a release we got today, coming out not long after State Farm reported record losses.

Allstate's Q3 Takes $1.2 Billion Hit from Catastrophes
The Agent Wire
Amid the flurry of falling leaves, Allstate Corp. dropped a bit of news that might make investors' hair stand on end – a staggering Q3 catastrophe loss of about $1.2 billion pretax. To break it down for those who've missed the memo: September alone saw losses of $317 million, thanks to Mother Nature throwing 17 curveball events our way. If you're thinking, "It's just rain and some wind," think again! Two major wind and hail shindigs accounted for a whopping 80% of those losses.
