🎙️ New episode out today! 🎙️

What does the future of POLG look like?

In this episode of The CortiCare Podcast, Dr. Amy Goldstein and Dr. Mary Kay Koenig discuss the work happening behind the scenes to improve care for patients living with POLG disorders.

From the creation of the POLG Crisis Response Team and physician resources to promising targeted therapies, gene therapy research, and international collaboration, they're helping lay the foundation for faster diagnoses, better treatment decisions, and more hope for families facing this rare disease.

Progress in rare disease doesn't happen overnight. It happens when clinicians, researchers, advocacy organizations, and families work together.

The difference between normal, interictal, and ictal activity isn't always obvious.

The same spikes and sharps that are expected in one patient population may signal significant pathology in another. Accurate recognition and description of EEG patterns are essential for effective monitoring and patient care.

Join Navita Kaushal for an engaging review of EEG waveforms encountered across various ages, neurological conditions, and seizure disorders.

Hospital Based Ambulatory EEGs Just Got Supercharged!

As hospitals continue investing in epilepsy programs, we're seeing a shift in how ambulatory EEG is being utilized.

It's no longer just an outpatient service.

It's becoming an extension of the epilepsy monitoring unit.

Over the past several months, CortiCare has helped launch three hospital-based ambulatory EEG programs that combine at-home testing with intermittent remote monitoring. While we're still evaluating long-term outcomes, the early results have been difficult to ignore:

✅ More studies are completed successfully.
Remote EEG technologists can identify and resolve issues before they compromise the recording, reducing repeat studies and improving data quality.

✅ Patients are happier.
Patients are completing studies sooner, and reports are often available within 48 hours. For many programs, that level of responsiveness was difficult to achieve with onsite resources alone.

✅ Neurology service lines are seeing stronger financial performance.
Monitored ambulatory EEG studies are reimbursed differently than unmonitored studies, creating an opportunity to provide a higher level of service.

As health systems build comprehensive neuroscience service lines, ambulatory EEG should not be viewed as a separate program.

It should be viewed as a natural extension of the EMU. One that expands capacity, improves access, and helps patients receive the right level of care in the right setting.

How confident are you in identifying EEG patterns at a glance?

EEG waveforms can look very different depending on age, neurological condition, and clinical state. What appears normal in one patient may be highly significant in another.

Join Navita Kaushal, PhD, R.EEG T, RNCST, NA-CLTM, for EEG Waveform Speed Round: Can You Name That Pattern, as she reviews common and uncommon EEG patterns across a variety of patient populations and seizure disorders.
