This is me and this is my family. I am a Japanese-American. I identify more as an asian-american than I do anything else. I love Japan and its culture and its people and everything being Japanese has given me. ⁣

and now white americans are targeting those I love, those who look like me, those who identify as Asian/Pacific Islander, the people in these communities. They hate us. Hate. and it didn’t just start today, yesterday, this year. There has been a constant push from those who seek to keep White Supremacy alive, a push to keep those the deem “foreign” out, down, scared. There are people out there who believe we deserve to be killed just for being alive, just for being different. And it’s not a small number of people. Don’t brush this off thinking it is. It’s thriving in every stereotypical accent, every hurtful joke, every cringe at a part of asian culture. It’s thriving in every small crack of hate it can find. ⁣

It breaks my heart that I can’t feel safe in communities I’ve grown to love, that my sister and I have to fear for our mom’s life as she lives far away from us in a state filled with hate and ignorance. ⁣

What happened on March 16th in Atlanta was a hate crime. Call it what it is, and use it to fuel your passion to fill the spaces around you with love and understanding and compassion and learning. Fight back against the pervasive hate flowing around every one of us. Once we face it and start fighting back, hate has no where to go. 💜
