What a week! The sun is out and temperatures are warming up! Many homeowners are going through trying times as we deal with burst pipes in our homes. I've heard from many of you and I am available to interact via phone or email with you so feel free to reach out if you haven't done so already.

If you've had a pipe burst and you have major damage please call the Farmers Claims hotline at 1-800-Help Point (1-800-435-7764) and report the claim as a Freeze loss. This will ensure that your claim is assigned to the CAT Team (catastrophic claims office that has been set up to help with this storm).

Also, if you haven't already done so, turn off the main water supply to the home and drain the pipes by turning on faucets in sinks. If damage is severe and there is a lot of water inside the home you may want to have the electricity turned off as well. Call a plumber to come out and repair the broken area of pipe to get the water supply system working again.

Unfortunately turnaround times for Water Mitigation companies who can help measure moisture in hidden areas and dry those areas out, is much longer than normal due to the volume of homes affected. So if you are able to safely dry out affected areas try to do that as much as possible to minimize further damage.

The tornado last night caused major damage in our area. Surprisingly the Hanson Agency at Forest and Preston has power and is operational. If you are a client and have damage, please call us here and we can offer guidance. If you are not a client and need guidance we are happy to help as well.

The Farmers Insurance National Catastrophic team will be setting up a command center shortly to help with the large number of claims.
