I had the opportunity to add some color to this piece and spend a few extra hours refining the blackwork. These are some of my favorite appointments because they give us the chance to take a tattoo that’s already solid and make it even better.
I always recommend adding a refinement session when possible. Building up the black and making small adjustments can help improve the overall look and longevity of the tattoo, giving it even more impact as it heals and ages.
I’m really proud of how this one turned out, and I’m especially grateful to my client, Matt, for trusting the process and putting in a little extra time (and pain!) to make sure this piece was the best it could be.

Finished up this Shadow King piece today! This one was definitely a challenge to design, but that’s exactly the kind of project I love. Intricate, detailed tattoos really push me creatively, and seeing everything come together makes all the time worth it.

I always enjoy tattooing these. We still have a couple of hours left to do the background. We are going to use red and make some abstract The side profile was the perfect choice for this piece—it really highlights the iconic beak and gives the design the presence it deserves. Pieces like this are a great mix of dark imagery, character, and strong composition.
