It wasn’t exactly a silent retreat, but I did spend a couple of days by myself out of the lake.
It’s been an incredibly stressful few months for me, in ways I won’t recount,
And I am sensing a heaviness among almost everyone right now. An exhaustion as we look towards Summer.
For me, summer will have a lot of exciting things. I’m getting ready for Kerrville, followed by Annual Conference. Then, a few short midweek trip for Dennise and me during the summer.
Our summer camps to be shaping up too nicely.
And there are some other things on the horizon for the KPUMC THIS fall that excite me.
So, a part of this time here is a quick long breath before all that starts.
But of course much about the world continues to be very hard. And I know I get wound into it all sometimes in ways that aren’t healthy.
I just finished listening to Manoush Zomorodi’s new brilliant book while out here. In “Body Electric” this little quote gem hit me right between the eyes:
“”You can only do so much” isn’t just a saying to make you feel better when you drop the ball on something; it’s a neuroscientific fact.”
I know this.
I forget this.
I remember this.
Wash, rinse, repeat.
Maybe you’re in this same cycle in this hard time?
In the past month, I have been trying to get back to my best spiritual, emotional, and physical practices.
Spending time like this is a part of that.
Hope you do it too.

Our CLEARDFW work to stop Hutchins made a montage tonight on Rachel Maddow.
She’s doing a story on how communities are resisting…and winning.
Starts at about the 8 min mark of tonight’s broadcast.
Nice shots of our press conference.

JOY....just...joy.
Thanks to for having me over with other neighbors last weekend, for a deeply satisfying porch/music hang.
Let’s do it again, neighbor.
We’ll have to break out the Lovett/Keen song next time.
