Congress Invests Up to $11 Million in Humane Wild Horse Management 🚨

Yesterday, Congress passed the Interior Appropriations bill, preserving protections against slaughter and providing up to $11 million for immunocontraceptive vaccines. This signals clear Congressional intent for the BLM to scale humane, in-the-wild management of wild horses and b***os.

More wild horses are now confined in holding facilities than living free on public lands. Fertility control is a proven, cost-effective solution, and Congress has now funded it—while rejecting permanent surgical sterilization and maintaining the slaughter ban.

AWHC’s Virginia Range program shows fertility control works at scale, stabilizing populations while keeping horses free at a fraction of the cost of roundups. Congress has acted. Now it’s time for BLM to do the same.

Wild horses are federally protected icons. Conservation—not removal—must lead the way.
