When it comes to college athlete academics maintaining a certain GPA isn't the only factor. While amateur status may be waived the rest of the rules still apply including how many classes you successfully complete each semester or PROGRESSION.
If you are not making progression toward your degree you can be ruled academically ineligible to play. If you don't play a program can pull your scholarship.
