This is so sad and of course, it's worse here in TX because Medicaid was NOT expanded. For those not in healthcare, you also need to understand EMTALA - anyone showing up in the emergency room HAS to be treated regardless of ability to pay. If they are sick enough, hospital admission occurs, then if they need a lower level of care, there is no insurance coverage and there they sit in the hospital, driving up everyone's costs.
