Homegrown Schools
What's most important to you when choosing a micro-school group for your child?
07/19/2020
Welcome!
We are a networking community of parents and educators who are connecting in order to create micro-schools and/ or homeschool cohorts in our neighborhoods and communities.
With most public schools going to a social distancing model for the 2020-21 school year, many parents are concerned about the developmental implications this will have on their children. Many parents are also worried about the financial implications of distance learning, as they may have returned to their jobs or work from home, and no longer have the ability to supervise their kids during the day. There are also many teachers who are concerned about the implications of social distance learning in schools. If you are a parent or a teacher who shares these concerns, you are in the right place!
We have a creative solution to the problem of social distancing requirements in public and private schools!
Our solution is a cohort model of education. Cohorts are small groups of learners (up to 20) that meet on a regular schedule. Cohorts can be created in different ways, as a cohort can become a private, micro-school, or it can be a homeschool cohort, or even a tutoring club cohort. The creation of cohorts will depend on your personal preferences and the laws of your state. What we will do is help guide you through the cohort model of education and we will provide the platform for you to network. This network will help you connect with compatible families to create small cohorts and compatible teachers and/ or tutors to help supervise and monitor their learning.
Homegrown schools is an early start-up and in the process of development. Our full website will be online soon, and it will be comprehensive! In the meantime, let's grow our community interest through social networking on social media! There is really no time to waste, as the school year is fast approaching!
In order to create our community, please like or follow us on the Homegrown Schools page. This is where we will have important updates and information that will help you with developing your cohort. Although there will be some networking opportunities here, our group pages is where you will be doing most of your early networking, including advertising your cohorts or looking for teachers. We are starting by creating the following groups:
Homegrown Schools (USA)
Homegrown Schools California
Homegrown Schools Texas
Homegrown Schools Oregon
We will be adding groups based on interest and/ or need!
Now, let's get started and grow this community fast! Please share with your family and friends or groups who you think will have an interest in networking and forming or participating in a cohort in their community.
