One of the great things about traveling to do art shows is getting to see cool things in different places. These photos are from my visit to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

Some of the texture in this 14x14in painting on wood panel comes from dried corn husks that were wrapped around a !

I was inspired by beautifully textured walls I had seen in a Kyoto ceramic art gallery . It looked like the walls were made with mud and rice straw and reminded me of the walls I had seen many times in some Tucson homes. I am always mesmerized by texture and in that moment, it occurred to me that I could try something similar in a painting, but with a more local material. Hence, my use of dried corn husks!

This piece ended up turning into a highly abstracted landscape — at least, that’s what I see, but let me know what you see. I also used venetian plaster, wire mesh, acrylic paint and ink.
