Texas' State Board of Education is expected to vote this month on a pair of proposals that would add to the growing presence of Christianity in classrooms across the state.

Critics say the push for more Christian teaching would give students an incomplete picture of the nation's history and leaves out other religious traditions.

The infections are the first detected in the United States since the 1960s. Officials are aggressively trying to prevent the parasite from spreading in the nation’s largest cattle-producing state.

The screwworm is a fly whose larvae feed on the tissue of livestock, wildlife and pets that has long been eradicated in the country.
