There’s new art on display at the Flower Mound Senior Center! The exhibit features quilts created by The Grateful Threads, a Seniors In Motion quilting group. From left to right, here are the deets on each piece:

🧵 Dream Flight: Created by Anne-Marie Jennings, this foundation-pieced quilt represents a celestial sky filled with colorful planets. Created from nearly 1,000 pieces of vibrant batik and cotton fabrics, it is machine pieced and machine quilted.

🧵 Empress Garden: Also created by Anne-Marie Jennings, this custom, mixed-media quilt is inspired by and reflects the beauty and serenity of the landscape Japanese Garden in Fort Worth.

🧵 Celtic Wonder: Created by Tonya Stevens, this quilt showcases the intricate art of reverse applique.

🧵 Born on the Fourth of July: Created by Dana Hornung and quilted by Judy Reel, this quilt is a recreation of one Dana saw at a quilting retreat. She says its unique interpretation of the American flag immediately stood out to her. The pattern source for this quilt is called ‘Our Flag Stands for Freedom’ by Lisa Bongean.

🧵 Pitcher’s Delight: Created by Elsie Grundtvig, this memory quilt celebrates 25 years of championship baseball tournaments. Nearly 30 tournament t-shirts collected from around the country were used to transform this quilt that preserves decades of travel, competition, and cherished memories.

Thank you to all these wonderful artists for sharing your craft with us! You can stop by the Senior Center (2701 W. Windsor Dr.) through the end of August to check these out in person.

Additionally, the Grateful Threads quilting group is open to all Senior Center members. Bring your sewing or quilting project to the Senior Center every Monday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. to stitch with fellow quilters. To learn more, visit www.flowermound.gov/seniors.

The Children's Parade begins at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, at the corner of Easton Street and Timber Creek Road. It concludes at Leonard and Helen Johns Community Park (1850 Timber Creek Rd.), where you'll find our red tent along with plenty of other fun kids activities.
