Quick programming note to our faithful followers!

So, everyone is shutting down for this weekend, from the local promotions to AEW/ROH.

We had all the pics from last week, but we find the show works better for fans when we stick to the Thursday before th new show. We’ll be able to catch you up and remind you what all happened as we look back and as we switch around to previewing what’s coming up.

So, stay safe. We haven’t closed shop, we’ve just postponed like everyone else.

We’ll catch you next week. -Brian

[Brian here. I’ve got a couple of “lost posts” of the story behind the photo behind the dinner that the pic was taken, but the post hasn’t been written yet. i hope to sort that out soon. ]

As is Tradition….

“The Story Behind the Photo Behind the Dinner™”

In a battle to be number one contender, Tatum Manning suplexes Demo Diamond from the middle turnbuckle. The match would later be declared a double disqualification by Senior Referee Travis Trueborne because a pair of referees were knocked out during the course of the match.

Behind the lens:

Usually, like 9 times out of ten, whenever wrestlers claim the turnbuckles and it looks like one is about to suplex the other, it doesn’t happen. The intended victim will fight their way out and fend off their opponent who will drop to the mat.

And sometimes you get that 10th time, where you catch that things are different. And if you’re lucky enough to catch that subtle change you get ready to catch something stunning.

I’m pretty sure this dented the middle of the ring. It certainly sounded like it.

Somehow these men would survive and go on to slug it out until the match was called.

But that’s a whole other thing.

Wrestling is storytelling. And a tool of that storytelling is the get feats these people will go through to achieve their dreams and goals. It illustrates the amount of punishment and pain they’re willing to endure along the way.

Which all takes on a whole new meaning when authority ends it all in such an abrupt way and disregards all of that in wave of their hand.

Twenty minutes of war halted because some ref put on his big boy pants and forgot his big boy glasses. Because he would have seen that neither ref takedown was intentional.

But a good story has unexpected twists and turns. Just like you sometimes have to wait for the tenth time for the suplex to take flight off the ropes, you have to wait a moment before retribution hits the mark.

A good story takes time to pull you in, to enthrall and get you invested. And when it finally lands, it hits hard. Trust the process.

Also: 6oz sirloin, loaded Mac and cheese, street corn, unsweet mango ice tea with sweetener on the side, not pictured: bowl of enchilada soup and a slice of peanut butter pie

And thus concludes tonight’s entry in the Royal Archive of
“The Story Behind the Photo Behind the Dinner™”
An exploration of art, athleticism, and street corn.
