I don’t think I even knew that film school was an option growing up. In fact, I know I didn’t. Most of my life has been a series of vignettes that fade in and out of my memory, mostly I think for a mental and emotional protection of what was going on around me. I’m better for it and I now know why I made films in forms of vignettes. Film school doesn’t teach you those things. Although I wished I had gone and feel like my cinematic path would have been much quicker, but in not doing so it allows for trial and error. The road less taken. On those roads I’ve had the most adventures that a tuition can’t provide. Film school students want to get coffee for a famous director in hopes they can help their career one day. I stumbled into GDT’s house when the hills were on fire and helped him with his belongings. In turn he bought me Cuban food, beers, rum and Tiramisu. I didn’t want the desert but Guillermo said “when’s the next time Guillermo Del Toro is going to buy you tiramisu?” Very soon I said.

Houston, Texas.

Each night has its own shape. Some feel seamless. Some feel very, very independent. Last night reminded me how humbling this work is, and how alive it becomes in the room.

This tour is an invitation. Into the world of the film. Into something we’ve come to call sacramental cinema.
