Kids like to have fun, so they’re more likely to keep exercising if they’re doing an activity they enjoy. Turn on music and have a dance party, or pack in lots of walking during trips to the zoo, park or miniature-golf course. Children having fun playing with snow. Surfers enjoying their sport. Light-hearted pleasure, enjoyment, fun – to be able to return, at least for a little while, to never-never land and enjoy it.

Invite everyone to participate in activities. It’s one of the most successful ways to change our kid’s exercise habits. We can volunteer to coach a soccer team and encourage our kids to play, sign-up for a martial arts class as a family, join an outdoor adventure, swimming or running club, or take a ball or flying disk when our family goes to the park or beach.

Use exercise as transportation. Walk our kids to school, bike to visit friends or roller skate to the park. We also can park at the far end of parking lots and take the stairs instead of the elevator. For other uses, see Exercise and Workout. Running in water. Weight training. Exercise is any bodily activity that enhances or maintains physical fitness and overall health.
