A single word can travel surprisingly far.
“Soap” likely began as Proto-Germanic *saipō, which spread into Latin (sapo), then Greek and Syriac, becoming Arabic ṣābūn. From there, trade routes carried it across the Indian Ocean into Malay (sabun), then into languages of Indonesia and northern Australia (e.g. sabuj, jaabu).
