Construction update - Oct 2024 The Rise is a visionary city center featuring retail, entertainment, residential & workplace districts connected by the largest green roof park in the world.

We were deeply saddened to learn today of the passing of our friend Rafael Viñoly, the celebrated architect and master planner known for creating some of the world’s most original structures and embraced and approachable civic spaces.

In a career spanning 40 years and six continents, Rafael pushed his industry away from monumental sculpture and individual appreciation towards human use and holistic, organic, open places designed for shared experiences. Every one of Rafael’s creations was distinctive and inspired by its unique context and potential, and he strived for the simplicity of a design, believing one comprehensive idea was the way to reveal undiscovered synergies and bring people together. It was this approach that fueled his inspired and innovative design of The Rise in Cupertino. The Rise will be a monument to his lasting impact on the built form and how we gather.

Our condolences go out to Rafael’s family and to all of our colleagues at The Rise who had the great pleasure of having played a part in his inspiration and who were touched by his character and spirit.
