This week at Crowley Veterinary Hospital, we had the pleasure of hosting Courtney Wingate, a 3rd-year veterinary student from Louisiana State University who assisted our team during a Caval syndrome surgery.

Caval syndrome is a severe, life-threatening form of heartworm disease where adult worms obstruct blood flow to the heart. These cases require urgent surgical intervention and can be incredibly dangerous — but they are also 100% preventable.

Heartworm disease is transmitted by mosquitoes and can affect any dog, even indoor pets. Monthly heartworm prevention is safe, effective, and far less costly — financially and emotionally — than treating advanced disease.
