Ascend Leadership Institute

Today was to be the opening day of Ascend (formerly YMI) at Northside Assembly in Crowley. It was a very difficult decision but we chose to cancel the event this year due to lower registration. We ended up with 24 registrants about a week and half out. Normally we would have 50 plus students in addition to staff. We are trying to evaluate the reasons. Part of the conflict was youth staff that also now serve as Kid's camp staff in July. The economy may also be a contributor. Ascend is now under the leadership of the Youth Department. That team will be evaluating future planning, dates, and venue for this valued training event. Earlier Marci and I had decided this would be the last Ascend that we would direct. It has been a great time of running this event for the past 5 years. The Blakneys were the founders and did a great job of directing for 20 some years. Thousands of youth have been impacted by YMI / Ascend. Thanks to all who have contributed, attended and served over the past 26 year history of this event.
