You are invited to join the Crete Community Runners Association as we lead a 2 mile walk for Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom. The walk will be held on Saturday, June 21st at 8:00am. Please meet at Heritage Park at 7:30am.

Local Connection: Crete & the Underground Railroad
Right here in Crete, history lives on. Caroline Quarlls, a young freedom seeker, found refuge here on her path to freedom. In 2018, the National Park Service recognized the Crete Cemetery and Crete Congregational Church at 550 W. Exchange St.—which you'll pass on the Freedom Walk—as a significant site in the history of the Underground Railroad, now eligible for the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom.
