Good evening Rhode Island Mineral Hunters!! For our November meeting, we welcomed Mark Lavoie, owner of Third Rock Emporium, who taught us about the origins of Rhode Island minerals. He shared maps showing the different geological formations in RI, and explained to us how our state was formed. He showed us detailed geological time scale charts with events and formations. Did you know that there are rock formations from the Cretaceous Period in the Mohegan Bluffs of Block Island? Or that Hope Valley used to be mountains? Mark even brought in RI minerals to show us, including bowenite, amethyst, cumberlandite, stretched pebbles, and chloratoid Masonite. Thank you so much Mark for an amazing presentation!!
