What does a Sabbath year look like on an urban farm? It looks like God giving you one of your absolute favorites through a volunteer ground cherry (aka husk cherry) plant. Actually, 4 of them are growing around the place. And those are volunteer tomatillos too!

It looks like picking blackberries for your breakfast, after you finish the morning chicken chores.

And, it looks like finding a good price on organic plums, (which for some unexplainable reason you've always wanted to preserve, but haven't) and turning those into canned pie filling, jam, and chutney. No kidding... after tasting each one, I think if I could always have plums, I'd never bother with canning peaches again. Yes, they're THAT good!

A beautiful morning fit for a delicious homemade breakfast. It might look like strawberry shortcake (& you'd be right!) but I tell myself using English scones instead makes it legal for breakfast, or afternoon tea... whichever you prefer.

The strawberries have been plentiful this year. For that, and much more, I am thankful.

I recently saw a local bakery advertise a seasonal strawberry toast for brunch. I thought, 'I can do that!' Well, given my current situation, WE did that.

So here's our variation of strawberry toast, with homegrown strawberries and thyme buds. For the price of a little bread and cream cheese, we just saved more than a few bucks on a delicious breakfast.
