A message from Q***r Northshore co-founder, Remy JF Thompson:

With the books closed on another Pride Month on the Northshore, we want to shine a big, bright spotlight on the person who helped lead the charge this year: Q***r Northshore Executive Director Leyla Hekmatdoost (seen here in full Tuffy Mode).

Earlier this year, our board unanimously voted to elect Leyla as our new Executive Director. Her first task? Organizing our 3rd Annual Pride Northshore Parade, Block Party, and a full month of events and programs.

And the challenge was immediate: the city cost to produce our main Pride events had doubled.

Leyla rose to meet the moment.

She organized committees, built the largest volunteer network in our organizationโ€™s history, helped raise more funds than any year prior, and led us through an incredible Pride Northshore celebration.

Leyla grew up in Mandeville as the daughter of immigrant parents from Canada and Iran. After attending LSU for undergrad and grad school, she moved to Covington, where she has been a public school teacher, mother of four, parenting and family educator, leader in the secular homeschool community, professional photographer, and longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ rights.

Leyla, thank you for leading with heart, grit, humor, and community-first vision.

Pride Northshore was stronger because of you.
Q***r Northshore has a future because of you. ๐ŸŒˆ
