Pink Headed Duck Coffee

We’re excited to say it’s our second season working with the 75 farming families in Done Li Tan, led by Khun Sein Tun (orange shirt), and an amazing trip earlier this harvest brought us up 1,676 meters (5,500 ft) to spend the afternoon with the community’s processing team. As some of the newest members of Indigo Mountain co-op, their village and Catuai coffee farms are tucked away among the steep slopes of the Indigo Mountain range—the same mountains from which the co-op gets its name.

With the 2024 arrivals now making their way across the US and Canada, we wanted to introduce you to the newest communities we’re working with on this latest import – starting with Naung Sam Phu!

Sitting opposite the valley from where most Indigo Mountain Coffee communities are found, Naung Sam Phu stands as the most remote mountainside village in the co-op. The farmers here, led by U Khun Maung Song (last photo), decided to join Indigo Mountain in 2018 and were especially inspired by the successes the co-op was bringing – building on UNODC and USAID coffee programs – to make an enduring model for local communities transitioning from poppy farming to specialty coffee. Six years later and the producers continue to deliver a consistently delicious dry natural. While we’re all sold out for 2024, we’re thrilled to start connecting more roasters with this Pa-O community for the first time.
