🥎🚨 The fastest way to slow down a young pitcher’s development is teaching too many pitches too soon.🚨🥎

10u–12u travel ball coaches… stop telling every pitcher they “need” to learn a change up or a drop ball before they are ready!

I only teach a new pitch when a girl is mechanically, developmentally, and emotionally ready for it.

Been pitching less than 6 months? She’s not learning a changeup yet. Her fastball mechanics and muscle memory are still being built, and throwing something completely different into the mix can make the process harder instead of helping.

And then comes pitch confusion.

Let’s say she’s been pitching 6 months and consistently throwing 60–65% strikes, so we add a changeup. Has she spent another 6 months mastering that? If not, she’s definitely not getting a drop ball.

Young athletes don’t have the body control to command three different pitches overnight. If they can’t consistently throw a fastball and a changeup, adding a third pitch is only creating confusion and inconsistency.

Teaching too much, too fast does more harm than good.

If your daughter learned a fastball, changeup, and screwball in her first three lessons… please find a new coach.

Build the foundation first. Master the mechanics. Develop body control. The flashy pitches can wait. Long-term success always wins.
