My early twenties I was in the USAF and stationed in England, and those were some of the most defining years of my life. In between the structure, pressure, and rigidity of military life, I took every chance I could to travel throughout Europe — studying history and culture, partying at places like Ministry of Sound, and spending an unforgettable New Year’s night in Edinburgh with people I still think about to this day.

England left a permanent mark on me. The people were warm and kind, the music and nightlife electric, and there was something about balancing all of that freedom and discovery against the discipline of military service that shaped me forever. So seeing my books now find a home in their first UK indie bookstore feels deeply full circle.

A lot of Zayne was born from those years. He was born in Puerto Rico, but moved their as a child. From the atmosphere, the emotion, the loneliness, the intensity, the feeling of trying to survive while becoming someone new. To know these stories are now physically on shelves means more to me than I can explain. Thank you, hamlet, for giving my books a UK home. 🤍
