Welcoming Father Booker

July 1st has finally arrived and I could not be more excited about the arrival of Father Booker. After 12 weeks of handling St Joseph as the only priest, I am ready for additional help to ease my workload. All of you have known him since he has been here as a deacon. I am excited to see what he can offer our parish. For my part I will try and work with him and teach him how to live as a diocesan priest and to have a heart for the people of God.
Father Booker’s first Masses as our associate will be the 4:00PM on Saturday, and the 8:00AM and 10:30AM on Sunday. We will have a welcome reception for Father Booker on Sunday, July 19th at 6:00PM after the 5:00PM Sunday evening Mass in the Spiritan Center.

Thank you all for your prayers and support these past few months. I am blessed to serve you as your pastor. Below is a brief biography of Father Booker. Father John

I was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, and spent my high school years at Woodrow Wilson High School in East Dallas. I am the oldest child of four and have two younger brothers and a little sister. Those years in Texas shaped me deeply, from the values I learned growing up to the love I still carry for my home state. I went on to attend Hendrix College here in Conway, where I played football and experienced one of the most important chapters of my life. It was here, at Saint Joseph’s, that I encountered the Lord in a profound way and entered the Catholic Church. That decision remains the greatest gift God has ever given me.

I’m a passionate sports enthusiast through and through. You’ll usually find me cheering hard for my Dallas teams, the Cowboys, Mavericks, Stars, and Rangers, as well as my Texas Longhorns. When I’m not watching a game, I love spending time outdoors fishing or in the kitchen cooking. I’m also looking forward to getting more serious about golf and hunting in the years ahead.

Music has always been a big part of my life. While my taste is pretty broad, I’m usually drawn to chill, soulful sounds, especially 90’s R&B, classic soul, soft rock, and bands like the Red Clay Strays. I appreciate how good music can express things in ways that words sometimes can't.

Above all, my greatest passion in ministry is walking with people through every season of life. I’m deeply committed to accompanying others and helping them to discover and hold onto hope in Our Lord, no matter how difficult or uncertain their circumstances may be. Whether in joy or in sorrow, my desire is to point people to the same Jesus who met me on my own unexpected road and changed my life forever.

Dando la Bienvenida al Padre Booker
Desde el Escritorio del Párroco

El 1 de julio por fin ha llegado y estoy muy contento de dar la bienvenida al Padre Booker. Después de 12 semanas sirviendo en San José como el único sacerdote, agradezco contar con apoyo adicional para compartir las responsabilidades de la parroquia. Todos ustedes ya tuvieron la oportunidad de conocerlo durante el tiempo que sirvió aquí como diácono. Me llena de alegría pensar en todo lo que aportará a nuestra parroquia. De mi parte, procuraré acompañarlo y orientarlo en su camino como sacerdote diocesano, ayudándolo a vivir su ministerio con amor y entrega al pueblo de Dios.

Las primeras Misas del Padre Booker como nuestro vicario parroquial serán el sábado a las 4:00 p.m., y el domingo a las 8:00 a.m. y 10:30 a.m. Tendremos una recepción de bienvenida para el Padre Booker el domingo 19 de julio a las 6:00 p.m., después de la Misa dominical de las 5:00 p.m., en el salón Spiritan Center.
Agradezco sinceramente sus oraciones y el apoyo que me han brindado en estos últimos meses. Para mí es un privilegio y una alegría servirles como su párroco. A continuación, les comparto una breve biografía del Padre Booker. Padre John

Nací y crecí en Fort Worth, Texas, y pasé mis años de preparatoria en Woodrow Wilson High School, en el este de Dallas. Soy el mayor de cuatro hermanos y tengo dos hermanos menores y una hermana pequeña. Aquellos años en Texas marcaron profundamente mi vida, desde los valores que aprendí mientras crecía hasta el gran amor que aún conservo por mi estado natal. Continué mis estudios en Hendrix College aquí en Conway, donde jugué fútbol americano y viví una de las etapas más importantes de mi vida. Fue aquí, en San José, donde tuve un encuentro profundo con el Señor y entré a la Iglesia Católica. Esa decisión sigue siendo el regalo más grande que Dios me ha dado.

Los deportes siempre han sido una parte importante de mi vida. Soy un fiel seguidor de los equipos de Dallas, los Cowboys, Mavericks, Stars y Rangers, además de los Texas Longhorns. Fuera del deporte, disfruto mucho pasar tiempo al aire libre, especialmente pescando, y también me gusta cocinar. En el futuro, me gustaría dedicar más tiempo al golf y a la cacería.

La música siempre ha sido una parte importante de mi vida. Aunque mis gustos musicales son bastante variados, normalmente me inclino por sonidos tranquilos y con alma, especialmente el R&B de los años 90, el soul clásico, el soft rock y bandas como Red Clay Strays. Aprecio cómo la buena música puede expresar cosas que a veces las palabras no logran decir.

Pero, sobre todo, mi mayor pasión en el ministerio es caminar junto a las personas en cada etapa de sus vidas. Estoy profundamente comprometido con acompañar a los demás y ayudarles a descubrir y mantener la esperanza en Nuestro Señor, sin importar cuán difíciles o inciertas puedan ser sus circunstancias. Tanto en los momentos de alegría como en los de dolor, mi deseo es guiar a las personas hacia el mismo Jesús que salió a mi encuentro en mi propio camino inesperado y cambió mi vida para siempre.
