🇲🇽 Beyond the Tacos: The Real Story of Cinco de Mayo! 🌮

🍹While many of us are ready for margaritas ( especially me 😁) and chips, did you know that Cinco de Mayo isn’t Mexico’s 🇲🇽Independence Day? (That’s actually September 16th!)

🥳So, what are we celebrating❓

✳️Today commemorates the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It was a legendary underdog story: a poorly equipped Mexican army of roughly 2,000–5,000 soldiers led by Texas-born General Ignacio Zaragoza defeated a much larger, elite French force sent by Napoleon III.

Ⓜ️ Why it matters:
Symbol of Resilience: Even though the French eventually occupied Mexico for a few years, this victory became a massive morale boost and a symbol of Mexican resistance against foreign intervention.

🌉A Cultural bridge:
In the U.S., the holiday evolved in the 1960s as a powerful way for the Chicano movement to celebrate Mexican-American heritage, pride, and identity.

ℹ️ Fun Fact:
The traditional dish of the day in Puebla isn’t actually tacos 🌮 it’s Mole Poblano, a rich, savory sauce made with chilies and chocolate!🍫

📆This year, as you enjoy the festivities, take a second to toast to the courage and culture behind the date. ¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo! 🥂✨
