🐶 PSA for Ball-Obsessed Dogs: Ditch Tennis Balls for Fetch! 🎾🚫
Especially if you have a German Shepherd (or any large breed), those tennis balls might seem perfect for fetch — but they’re actually risky. Here’s why you should avoid them:
• Too abrasive on teeth: The fuzzy felt acts like sandpaper, wearing down enamel over time — leading to painful teeth, sensitivity, and big dental bills.
• Serious choking hazard: Standard tennis balls (about 2.5–2.7 inches) are the perfect size for a GSD to accidentally swallow or get stuck in their throat. Many end up in emergency surgery for blockages.
• They break apart: Once chewed, the rubber and felt pieces can be ingested, causing intestinal obstructions.
• Not durable or safe: They’re made for tennis, not powerful jaws. Large breeds like GSDs destroy them quickly.
Better ball options for GSDs & large dogs:
• Large, heavy-duty rubber balls (3–4+ inches, like ChuckIt! Max Glow or Ultra Ball — sized for large breeds)
• Solid rubber fetch balls designed for big jaws
• Avoid anything small enough to fit fully in their mouth
Your GSD’s teeth and safety are worth the switch! Protect that powerful smile. ❤️
