Working hard on learning our “Zones” so we can practice self regulation 👏👏

Behavior is communication 👇

In this moment, our client missed the target and immediately began showing signs of frustration. But instead of focusing on the behavior itself, we focused on the skill underneath it.

Through movement, co-regulation, Zones of Regulation, and lots of practice in low-pressure situations, we worked on recognizing emotions, recovering from mistakes, and trying again.

Many children with ADHD, sensory differences, or emotional regulation challenges struggle when things don’t go as planned. The goal isn’t perfection, yet instead it’s building the tools they need to navigate those moments successfully!!

Does your child struggle with frustration, big emotions, transitions, or behaviors that seem to come out of nowhere?

Occupational therapy may be able to help!!

🚨Life Touch Therapy offers FREE screenings to help identify whether sensory processing, regulation, motor, or executive functioning challenges may be impacting your child’s daily life.

One activity. Hundreds of tiny brain-and-body connections!

When children complete visual construction puzzles like this, they’re building much more than a picture. Let’s unpack what his activity supports:

👀 Visual Perception

… working on goals like identifying shapes, discriminating between similar pieces, and recognizing spatial relationships

✌️ Visual-Motor Integration

… goals like using what the eyes see to guide hand movements, and accurately orienting and placing pieces

🤌 Fine Motor Skills

… goals like precision grasp and release, finger dexterity, and in-hand manipulation while rotating pieces

🙌 Bilateral Coordination

…. goals like stabilizing with one hand while manipulating with the other and coordinating both sides of the body together

🧠 Executive Functioning

… goals like planning, problem-solving, working on trial and error, and lexible thinking when a piece doesn’t fit

💪 Attention & Persistence

… goals like a sustaining focus, working through frustration, and completing a task from start to finish

🪐Spatial Awareness

… goals like understanding concepts like above, below, beside, turn, flip, and rotate

➡️The best part? To a child, it feels like play!! To an OT, it’s a meaningful opportunity to build foundational skills that support handwriting, dressing, classroom participation, and everyday independence 🫶

Play is powerful, but PURPOSEFUL play is pediatric OT ✨
