A new Ohio story says 30% of surveyed women did not get some type of reproductive health care they needed.
That should concern all of us, but the answer is not more abortion politics.
The care named in the report includes pelvic exams, cervical cancer screenings, care for painful or irregular periods, fertility assistance, birth control, and menopause care. Those are real health care needs, and Ohio women deserve better access to them.
Ohio was told that legalizing abortion would protect women’s health. Yet women are still facing barriers like cost, insurance issues, and difficulty getting appointments.
That should be a wake-up call.
The liberal fixation on abortion expansion distracts from and undermines the real health care needs of women. When every conversation about women’s health is reduced to abortion access, serious issues like cancer screenings, fertility care, prenatal and postpartum support, treatment for painful medical conditions, and access to affordable primary care receive far less attention than they deserve. Women are not helped when their legitimate health care struggles are twisted into a political argument for more abortion.
