How important do you believe networking is?

No matter where you are in your career, networking is absolutely essential.

But not in the way you might think.

Many people think of networking as transactional.

Networking isn’t simply a question of “What can I sell this person?”.

It’s a question of “How can I help this person?”.

This is a trait that many veterans have naturally. Helping everyone become successful is a great way to achieve success yourself.

How do you interact with others at work or with your managers?

Many times we don’t talk about emotions or express our authentic selves at work for fear that if we’re vulnerable, our jobs may be on the line.

This is a form of protection and survival in the workplace.

This is especially true for military personnel and veterans. We worry that opening up may be seen as a weakness and our managers may not think we’re fit to serve the organization.

Sometimes the “go-ahead” to be vulnerable has to come from higher-ups and managers.
